How Does the Law of Perjury Apply to the Giving of False Evidence?

One of the most famous cases of perjury through the giving of false evidence was the case involving Lord Archer who won a 1987 case against the Star newspaper which had claimed he slept with a prostitute. Lord Archer was later found guilty of a number of counts of perjury as he had not only given false evidence, but asked a friend to be an alibi and created a diary to back up his version of events for use as evidence.
